Prospective Drivers

Driving: How does it work?

Driving for Neighbor Ride is a flexible and fun way to meet your senior neighbors. You will also make a difference in the life of Howard County seniors who choose to age in place by providing them with comfortable, reliable and affordable transportation.

STEP 1:

Attend an Orientation

Learn the ins and outs of our process and discover the tools you’ll have at your fingertips to start accepting rides. Orientation is held Tuesdays from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., and an evening program is offered once a month. The next evening Orientation is Monday, January 20 at 6:00 pm. If you have a group interested in volunteering, we can even bring the orientation to you! Click here to register for an orientation.

STEP 2:

Accept Your Ride

Once you have attended orientation and your paperwork is complete, accept a ride that fits your schedule. It’s as easy as logging in to our online portal or clicking a ride request from our email list.  Choose a time that is convenient to your home or office at a time that works for you! Daytime, evening and weekend opportunities are available.

STEP 3:

Pick-up Your Rider

You will drive in your personal vehicle to your rider’s location and help them into your vehicle.

STEP 4:

 Drive and Have Fun!

Get to know your rider and enjoy great conversation as you take them to their location. You can even bring your children along to share in this multigenerational opportunity!

STEP 5:

Free Time Between Drop-off and Pick-up

After you drop off your rider, your time is yours. You can run errands, meet a friend, or stop at home, just be sure to return in time for pick up.

STEP 6:

Pick-up Your Rider

Take your rider back to their home and say goodbye… until the next time you connect when they need a ride!

“My wife and I have been volunteer drivers for years. The clients are wonderful and appreciative, and constantly tell us how important our service is to them. The scheduling process for the drivers is extremely convenient and flexible, and the office staff has always been helpful and pleasant.”
