July 2018 Transporter

Thank You for Another Great Year!

In the fiscal year that just ended June 30th, Neighbor Ride volunteers scheduled, coordinated and delivered 17,444 trips for 496 different clients — both record highs for Neighbor Ride.

Neighbor Ride volunteers and supporters are truly meeting the growing need for transportation and making a difference in the lives of many older adults in Howard County.  The Neighbor Ride Good Neighbor Fund (for income eligible clients) covered the full cost of 38% of all rides provided by Neighbor Ride.  The new United Way ALICE subsidy program provided $10 credits to an additional 5% of rides. WAY TO GO!

Volunteer Appreciation Days at the
 County Fair

Howard County Fair

Once again the Howard County Executive is offering our volunteers free tickets to the Howard County Fair.  The  Appreciation Days are August 6th and August 7th. There is a 2 ticket maximum per volunteer. Please email or call the office to reserve your tickets.

Summer Reminders

If you arrive to pick someone up and there is a second person going along that is not listed on your confirmation, immediately call the office or the emergency line and do not start the ride.  We will check whether the extra person has  a waiver on file and determine whether they can ride.  Any person getting in a volunteer’s car must have a waiver with Neighbor Ride.

If your map links are not working, put the address into Google Maps without the apartment or unit number.

Remember to call your passenger the afternoon/evening before the ride.

Board Member Changes

We would like to express our gratitude for the generous contributions of outgoing Board Member Barbara Greenfeld.

We would also like to welcome new Board Members, Louis Hutt, III, CPA of the Hutt Company and Jacqueline Breeden who has years of experience in public relations, marketing and fundraising.

For more information on the Neighbor Ride Board of Directors please see our website.

 Passenger Comments

“I would have no quality of life because I couldn’t get to basic necessary places like the doctor, pharmacy, food stores, bank, work etc… I have no other way to get to places to keep me going.”

“My loved one had a much less restricted, happier and more involved life than would have been possible without you. He was amazed at how many gave so much of themselves.  You expanded the life he was able to live up until the last.  He loved talking about the people he met and what they had to say.  God Bless.”
