About Us - Our Mission

Neighbor Ride, established in 2004, is a nonprofit supplemental transportation program (STP) serving Howard County residents age sixty and older, a population that is projected to increase dramatically over the next twenty years.    Because a significant number of older Americans no long drive, they often stay at home, cutting themselves off from the activities and interaction that provide quality to their lives.  Neighbor Ride’s mission is to decrease this isolation and improve the quality of life for Howard County’s older residents by providing a reasonably priced, reliable supplemental transportation service which utilizes community volunteers and resources.

Neighbor Ride provides door-to-door transportation for medical appointments, religious services, recreational and social events, exercise and academic classes, volunteer and employment obligations, shopping and other day-to-day activities. Services are available to age-eligible county residents, regardless of ability to pay.  Volunteer Ride Coordinators handle intake and scheduling functions.  All transportation is provided by a team of volunteer drivers, using their personal vehicles.
